BIG Day for Nero
Canada is still very much on fire. Also, Trump indicted on federal charges, the Supreme Court did something okay, Reddit's baffling decisions leave blind folks up shit creek, and a big day for Nero.
Content warning: Suicide, gun violence
Canada is still deeply aflame
There is quite a bit of fire in Canada right now. If you live anywhere on the east coast, you've probably been breathing in some smoke from said fires.
The Canadian army as well as thousands of international aid workers have been deployed to fight the record setting fires. Canada is on track to see one of, if not the worst wildfire season in its history.
Here's some remarks from Trudeau if you wanna see that.
It's just some words on paper, after all
So, dear reader, I want you to know that I had originally written this part because Trump was informed that he was the target of a criminal investigation regarding his stealing of classified documents (of which some are now missing). But then, he was Actually Indicted as he announced via a post on Truth Social.
This is his second indictment since being president and probably not his last. It's also the first time we've seen a former president charged with federal crimes.
Notably, this will not do anything to impact his chances of winning his party's nomination.
There's actually not much else to say here. A well documented and storied criminal has been indicted. That's about it. We'll see how it plays out.
It's a really good announcement post though. Top tier.
Page 1: The corrupt Biden Administration has informed my attorneys that I have been Indicted, seemingly over the Boxes Hoax, even though Joe Biden has 1850 Boxes at the University of Delaware, additional Boxes in Chinatown, D.C., with even more Boxes at the University of Pennsylvania, and documents strewn all over his garage floor where he parks his Corvette, and which is “secured” by only a garage door that is paper thin, and open much of the time.
The Supreme Court Kinda Did Something Okay
In a (this is sad to say) surprise ruling, the Supreme Court sided with Black voters in Alabama, acknowledging that the current district map is literally illegal. Since for some reason American politicians get to draw their own electoral maps, the current map of Alabama is deeply unrepresentative of the actual people who live there.
Currently, only one out of seven districts is majority Black, despite the actual statistics showing that its closer to one in four residents being Black.
Roberts and Kavanaugh (the beer one) sided with the liberal justices to pass the decision.
Don't worry, blind people: Reddit totally didn't forget about you. Totally.
So I've already talked a bit about how Reddit is killing all third party apps. As of yesterday, basically all 3rd party apps announced that they will be shutting down, as Reddit will not budge. Reddit's CEO also bizarrely decided to try and claim that the developer of a 3rd party app was blackmailing Reddit, to which the 3rd party app developer brought receipts of their conversation and was like "what the actual fuck are you talking about?"
ANYWAY, Reddit's main mobile app, being the only mobile app for Reddit that you can use moving forward, is horrible for accessibility. Blind and hard of sight folks use 3rd party apps to be able to actually read and participate in Reddit given how bad the main app is.
When this was brought to their attention, Reddit was like "uh, um, uh, we're working on accessibility stuff! Also uh, maybe some accessible apps can stay?"
This just further exemplifies how this decision is not for the good of anything but their bottom line as they work towards an IPO. Capitalism is built on greed. Greed destroys.
On this day…
On this day in the year… uh, 53, Roman emperor Nero married Claudia Octavia.
Yay for the newlyweds, but also on this day in the year 68, Nero died by suicide, sparking a civil war in the region.
Big day for Nero.
