Stuff Keeps Happening is getting a few updates
Hello, dear reader!
I'm writing to let you know of a few changes to expect from Stuff Keeps Happening. Nothing particularly wild, but still noteworthy!
First, Stuff Keeps Happening now lives at https://www.skh.news. While I have been saying "visit skh.news..." for a while now, it has always just redirected you to the original website (stuffkeepshappening.online). It may take a little bit of time for all of the changes to settle across the internet because of internet reasons, so if you attempt to visit the site and it doesn't work, be sure to go directly to https://www.skh.news. If that still breaks, it may just take a bit of time to update on your end.
Internet reasons? What does that mean?
When you set up a domain name (a website url, like www.skh.news), you have to set up what are called "DNS Records," which are basically like submitting your information to a global internet directory so that when someone tries to visit your website, their computer knows how to find it.
DNS Records come with a "TTL," or "time to live," which means "don't bother looking up this record again for this amount of time." This is done to reduce the number of times that things need to be looked up, since DNS Records don't change often.
Because of this, if you've visited a website before, and then its records change (as has happened with SKH.news!) then your computer may end up getting confused until the TTL has expired and it fetches the DNS Record again. You can try to remedy this by "flushing your DNS cache," but it's usually best to just let it work itself out.
This has been your unexpected internet tidbit for the day.
Second, I have configured the newsletter to send from the skh.news domain name. You should now receive emails from noreply@skh.news, so you may wish to add that email address to your contacts or make sure it is marked as "not spam," because I would cry if you thought I was spam.
